Elbows popping?

When I do pushups, I sometimes get the feeling my elbow joints are sliding out of place and when I straighten them, they sort of crack.
It kind of puts me off pushups since I don't know wheater this is causing some kind of wear to my joints.
I'm 24, but I don't want to be crippled with arthritis in my elbows in 30 years.
Excuse my ignorance about all this stuff, I'm not a fitness buff and haven't much of a clue... but is this really a bad thing? should I avoid things like pushups because of this?

    Hi SantaHoe,

The problem might be with your actual push up technique. It is suprisingly easy to do it incorrectly. If you'd like you can drop into Arnotts and I can take a look for you (I'm a qualified instrctor) and possibly show you a couple of variations. I'm also a med student so I'd be more than happy to asses your elbow if there is a problem.

Overall though I wouldn't be too worried. You don't have to do pushups at all. There are many other techniques for development of the arms and chest.
    Hope this helps.
