Holy crap! Just tried. They're much harder than I remember. Pushing it to the very limit I got 31. Sorry JCDenton. Had to have something to aim for, and 70 was a bit much. Jesus, I'm wrecked.

20 before I have to stop for a rest, could probably push out a few more ontop of that, but it'd hurt too much :)
Having said that I'm a smoker who sits in a chair all day twiddling my thumbs.
    There's a benchmark for ye.

42 in a minute is my record from the summer, id say 35 no bother now (in a minute)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,492 ✭✭✭trotter_inc

Can do about 80 without stopping, manage about 60 in the following sets.

    I usually do 1/sec for a minute
but with all the different variations on what a pushup actually is, its hard to compare...

    Between 3 - 400 in 1 minute

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,406 ✭✭✭✭GreeBo

    see what I mean....
if you are doing 350/minute then your are moving your body at an average (note thats average you stop twice in one pushup) of ~50mp/h.

    Sorry old joke...couldn't help it!!

You bet people that you can do 3 -400 press ups, then you do say, 6..... and when they query that you say
    "thats between 3 and 400".

Your right too many versions of the push up.
Mine is on the knuckles, legs/back straight and nose down to around an inch from the ground.
Can do about 60 before it starts hutin too much

i took the army trials. its 20 push ups in 1 min.
    did it easily.
    i normally manage 1 per 1-2 seconds for 2 - 3 mins.
then after a few hours, maybe same again.
normally i get some pains in my muscles but its expected when i dont do exercise for weeks on end.

50 MPH? How long are your arms?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,406 ✭✭✭✭GreeBo

    ~2 ft
    why do you ask?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,214 ✭✭✭✭Pherekydes

Well, if you're going the whole way down (all 24") then by my calculations 400 pushups in 1 minute would be 18 MPH.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,406 ✭✭✭✭GreeBo

well a pushup is down and up so thats 48" for starters...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,214 ✭✭✭✭Pherekydes

    4ft * 400pushups * 60minutes = 96000 ft/hour

    96000/5280(feet/mile) = 18.2 MPH

What? Didn't think I accounted for the down part?

    Yep thats it allright.
My point is still valid and correct though, you cant do 400 pushups at an average speed of 18mph.

On the subject o Pushups...Can anyone here do dive bomer, hindu push up or a one handed push up. Strictly mind you! Feet hip disatance apart, arms tucked tight to the body, flat down touching the ground and back up? Or how about the bomber variation? Hand stand pushup anyone?

I knew you were just exaggerating. :D I reckon the max would be around 120, give or take. I saw a guy doing 89 in a minute, and I thought that couldn't be beat, but I'm sure someone could.
