    hi there

just started going to the gym today for the first time! and really liked it but i'm not sure what would be a good program for me...today i did about 15 minutes on the climber, 10 minutes on the rowing machine, some free weights (only lightish ones mind cos im only a wee girl ;)) some sets of 10 or 20 on various funny machines that i can't remember the names of and about 10 mins on the treadmill.

my main concern is simply getting a bit fitter (and well losing a few pounds would be nice but im not overweight at the moment) so i'd really appreciate any feedback on whether what i have been doing has been any good for getting fitter or not. like i say i havent got a clue about any of this really so any tips would be appreciated!

btw im ridiculously unfit at the moment so dont make it *too* difficult :)

    thanks a lot

just make sure you get someone to show you how to use all the machines

Yes at least get the instructors to show you how to use the equipment, you dont want to do yourself damage! Although alot of 'instructors' know feck all when it comes to exercise science, its a reasonable place to start.

You could check out the Fitness sticky, you might see some good stuff there.

by far the best resource online for fitness is http://www.crossfit.com After training for many years I finally got plugged into this way of thinking.

For maximum benifit with minimum time / effort balance its the bizorg.

Incase your not to keen on reading all their blurb the basic ideas are like this.

    FItness has many sides,
Cardio (not gettign out of breath)
    Strenght
Power (strong legs can push heavy wieghts, powerful legs can sprint and jump high)
    balance
flexibility (the most difficult to gain and the most benificail - but you only realise this later)
Co-ordination (putting all the above together)

THere are other types of fitness but thats a good place to start.

In most gyms you separate your CV (cardio) work and your Resistance (machines or weights that use lower reps)

The best way to train is mixing everything ups as much as you can. The more different types of exercises you do the better, mix everything like circuit training, more sports = better and so on. Or do MMA.

    Peace
