Hi, having issues with sky, i had fibre line added to house couple of years ago. Had sky broadband previously. Trying to sign up again with them and they are telling me i need nbi line installed which would involve digging up 80m trench again. Do telco lines go obsolete after few years? KN say it would be tight squeeze to put new line in current duct, it think it would fit anyway, but can i remove other line if its obsolete as kn guy said he cant touch that.

That sounds like a huge step backwards and an awful lot of hassle. Why do you want to move back to Sky specifically and what package have you requested?

Just checking. Are the issues you're having with Sky just about this broadband switch, or do you still have Sky TV with a different provider and it's not working well?

i tried eir but signal was crap few ms from router. This line previously had sky running fine on it a few months ago but now they say i have to put in nbi line as old line not active anymore. Mental it sounds to me but cant get though to anybody in Dublin to talk to, its all outsourced tech's im talking to on the phone.

have sky tv and its fine. The broadband contract ended few months ago with sky so i went with eir but signal didn't travel from router. I re ordered with sky and now they are telling me i need new line. KN guy told them have line but sky say its not active anymore and want to install nbi line.

want the same 500mbps second package i had with them a few months ago that i was happy with but price went up massively so tried eir and now back to sky. How a line was fine few months ago and now cant be used is beyond me.

Lets concentrate on the Eir for a moment.

"Signal crap few ms from router". Can you be more clear? Do you mean the wifi signal is a crap a few meters from the router? If so then it has nothing to do with the line and most likely a dodgy router. Eir tend to give out the cheapest of cheap for their routers(Im not picking on Eir, most providers do this too).

It can be used but providers choose which access network they want to use to connect you, if there's more than one available to you. It can be that the provider is getting a better deal with one over the other. Digiweb will let you choose which one you want to use but they have different prices for each.

The main ones are NBI, OpenEir, SIRO, Virgin FTTP.

I just saw your other thread about the Eir WiFi Extender, so you have fiber and it worked properly with Eir as well.

There's a problem with WiFi in the house, most likely a faulty modem from Eir or else interference.

Is the Eir modem in the same location as the Sky one was?

Can you see a list of multiple networks in the house?

Did Eir suggest sending out a replacement modem or go straight to the booster?

If the router connected to the fiber is transmitting a weak WiFi signal then a booster isn't going to help all that much unless connected by ethernet cable.

Yes router in same spot, actually had better speeds then sky at router bit didnt travel..all concrete internal walls. Sky booster worked quite well in hall so want to go back but this seems like a lot of hassle.

Its Open eir line I have installed and sky used that up to 2 months ago. Now they want me to put in nbi one which could involve digging 80m trench again through the garden. yes it was router that was crap as speeds to router were above 300mbs so was happy with that. Gonna try get kn to squeeze new line into same duct but some them lads dont want any hassle and will probably tell me dig new trench.

You could switch to Digiweb, they'll let you use the OpenEir line.

Yes but they will let you choose OpenEir, in comparison to Sky who won't let you choose. Just tell them on the phone you want to use the OpenEir line.

They call OpenEir "Lightning" on the website. It's the second offer in that screenshot.

As @LambshankRedemption has said, you could just get your own router or "WiFi mesh system" and stay with Eir instead.

You need to keep the Eir router, but get a better/decent Wifi router and your problem should be solved.

I wish had 900mbs. Yeah might be, sky are driving me up the walls now. Any recommendations decent router i can get mesh system etc.

If you want to go down the mesh route, the TP-Link Deco series is well respected. You can get 3 Deco x10's on amazon for 150 euro.

Depending how big your place is, a mesh system might be overkill. Maybe the TP-Link Archer AX55 at 75 euros will be just what you need.

Just bought the deco x 10, have eir sending out router again and sky cancelled. Do i just plug one mesh system in same room as router and others around the house?

You can remove the Eir router altogether and connect one of the units to the ONT, you can place the other two nodes around the house.

Select Dynamic IP as the connection type and head over to VLAN/IPTV settings and set Internet VLAN ID 10.

Just on this, just got my eir router and it goes active in the morning.Do I actually even need to unbox it and plug that in during activation slot or just plug in 1 mesh node to ont. Them settings you mentioned are they on the deco app? Thanks for the info.

Yeah there's no need to connect it, you can connect the Deco directly to the ONT.

I'm not sure why there's an activation slot, any Eir router should just work when connected afaik. Unless they deactivate your current router in some way.

Do you have the Deco yet? Yes those settings will be entered in the Deco app.

plug in the eir router, sure you don’t need , but use it to get up and running, if you have any issues that’s the first thing they will tell you to do.

5g is crap at penetrating , so these mesh WiFi nodes will sort it for you.

If your router is in the hall then put a node in the living room , upstairs landing and the bedroom where you use WiFi the most, you would probably get away with 2 to be honest if it’s a standard sized house.

If leaving the Eir router connected, you'd have to place the Deco into "Access Point Mode" and ideally turn off the WiFi on the Eir router.

So it's just easier to remove it completely and connect one of the Deco units directly to the ONT.

Presume Its the line will be active from tomorrow morning they mean as my billing probably starts from then.

Yes got the deco yeaterday and will try set up from activation tomorrow, have app downlaoded and ready to go.
