How long to get a summons

how long typically does it take the Gardai to serve a summons for motoring offences, stealing a vehicle, no insurance, leaving the scene and dangerous driving. The scumbag was caught leaving the scene a few miles away and made admissions that he was driving etc. there are also several witnesses so the Gardai have proof. Anyway I was told a while back by the Guard that he applied for the summons but how long does it normally take for the summons to be actually served and how long typically before it gets to court.
