I'd be looking at Done Deal for a good second hand drill if I was spending that kind of money, something like a Meddings drill would be better quality

My thoughts are I'd love one but really can't justify one. Firstly because it would rust out (in my cold damp shed) long before I'd get much use out of it.

On that bases I think second hand is the way to go particularly if its a piece of kit that won't get regular use.

Not keen on Jefferson stuff always seems like cheap chinese pretending to be american? In fact looking around I can see exactly the same chinese unit under several other brand names including SIP.

If you can make do with 90mm travel then this might suffice? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bosch-Home-Garden-Drilling-Diameter/dp/B00766C1A8

This is a real cheap solution which I have considered a couple of times https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0B7KSNS16

but I think I'd get a better one.

Thanks guys, decided against it for now as the new stuff is crap and I don't have transport for a big second hand one

    Keep well

I wouldn't worry too much about transport. A big second hand one will normally split down. The head section should come off as should the base and the platform, so the awkward bit is the length of the support pole. That said the head section could be a hernia inducing weight on a good old one.

Keep any eye on done deal, adverts. I picked up a 6' old English drill for sod all a few years ago. All that sip, Jefferson etc is dirt in comparison to the old English stuff

I bought a SIP version of that drill off that mallowtools crowd about 10 years ago.Still going strong.Rarely gets used now as I got a milling machine in the meantime that I can use for drilling.

Its covered in acf50 now for the rust prevention but still works fine whenever needed.

I had to make a stand to bring it up to working height though.
