Fencing question

I've never done much proper fencing, a slash hook and a bush are usually my weapons of choice but there a few bits I'd like to do properly. One bit is about 40 metres long and goes up, over and down a steepish hill. If I strain the sheep wire from one end the top will be tight but the bottom will be loose. What's the best way to have it tight top and bottom? Put a straining post at the top and put to it from each side? Or cut whatever wires are loose and cripple them until they're tight?
