about 5 years ago had problem using passport card at those self-service check in machines at Dublin airport. They only accepted normal passport so had to go to the desk to check in.

The card subsequently expired and didn't renew it because of this experience.

Now I use normal one for all travel.

The excuse about some countries not accepting it is nonsense. It's never been a problem for Ryanair so it's probably some booking program that they're unwilling to modernise.

Got onto them via X and WhatsApp and was told they need to cancel and rebook us just to get boarding Pass. They only refund via Wise app.

That sounds very suspicious to me. Are you sure you contacted the official Aer Lingus account? Only refund via Wise? The refund would be on to your original payment method.

Online check-in with passport cards is now possible.

Checking their website, while mentioning whatsapp on one page, its not listed as an official contact method on the contact us page
And whatsapp being what it is (scammers delight)…

There are scammers on X (Twitter) watching for people sending messages to the Aer Lingus Twitter account. They reply to those messages with what looks like an Aer Lingus account and will ask you to contact them by a WhatsApp phone call using a supplied link.

At which point they will scam you by spinning a yarn whereby you have to pay money to fix the problem. Not a cent of your money will go to Aer Lingus. I almost got caught out a couple of years ago. When the guy asked me to register on a payment website, I smelled a scam and terminated the call.
