Old 18Volt DeWalt tools

I have a full set of the old 18 volt cordless DeWalt tools all in great condition and does all my DIY jobs only problem I have is Batteries are getting weak and not holding much charge, my question is could I get 2 batteries reconditioned and would I need a new battery charger for reconditioned batteries or will I get an adaptor and get new type of DeWalt batteries

they still sell Dewalt branded batteries and third part Dewalt 18volts batteries on amazon.ie for example

The other option which might help you transition to new DeWalt tools is a battery adapter. Then you can buy new XR batteries. Note 18V and 20V XR batteries are the same its just a marketing thing for the US where they are thick enough to think that anything with a bigger number is better.

Buy the battery adapter as per above and use the newer batteries with your old tools. To get a charger and a couple of batteries, it might make sense to buy a new cheap dewalt drill with a couple of 18V batteries + charger, will be specials for black Friday.

Also screwfix will sell the 18V 5A batteries for €60, you will get a charger from adverts for €20.

I wouldn't mess about with the old NICAD batteries.

Some of the generic adaptors wont have low voltage cutoff… If they say they have one online, they probably have. If yo want to be safe, only run your batteries to 1 bar…. Dewalt also sell a genuine adaptor..

The low voltage cut off is built into XR batteries.

Not in my experience…Dewalt tools have it in the tool, perhaps there are some XR newer with it in.... I want to believe you....Its crap and bit of safety oversight not to have it.in the battery..Dewalt know there are so many 3rd party tools and adapters out there, it would be negligent of them not to.have it
