Is there any point getting more than 500Mb fibre for a home?

I'm coming up to renewal and 1Gig broadband is a small bit more money than 500 which I have had for 4 years. But is it just getting 1Gig for no reason? I've never had capacity issues on my 500 and It has started me thinking, does any regular household need more than 500 (assuming it's piped or meshed around sufficiently). Even 6 TVs showing 4K streams wouldn't max it out.

I know some people like the upload of bigger packages.

Only you can answer that for yourself. But you're correct, it's unlikely you'll actually use 1Gb. The amount of bandwidth used by streaming video services capped out a few years ago.

I’m on 1Gb but the only reason I’m not on 500Mb is because the 50Mb upload is a bit low for me. If it were even 500/100 I’d stick with that.

I upgraded from 500mb to 1GB earlier this year. Noticeable difference was very little. What made a much bigger impact was upgrading my router to a WiFi-7 triband router. I went with a GL.inet Flint 3 for €166 on Amazon. Performance is like night and day compared to the ISP provided ones.

I did similar, bought a few Fritz wifi6 units and get 200meg around the house. Made a huge difference with buffering or kids video calls dropping out.

    Thanks for your answers
