I was due to move from Gomo to Clear today between 4pm and 6pm....but I still have Gomo service. It said my service would drop and then to insert my Clear SIM. Did other posters port happen at the correct time?

Yes it should of went through. You'll need to get in contact with support for them to tell you what went wrong and do it again for you.

Keep checking to see if the chat is available, it'll have to be tomorrow now. If it's not showing at all, make sure cookies are enabled.

I moved to Clear today after many years on 48 @ the €8 package. Main reasons I moved was to get 5G and to hopefully get more reliable roaming abroad.

I had picked the switch to happen between 10.00 & 12.00 and right @ 10.00, I got an SMS to say I might have limited coverage or something and then the old SIM lost signal. I swapped the SIM and had coverage immediately, no problems at all. My first speed test was 833/150 Mbps.

Wifi calling isn't working, though, on my Razr 60 ultra, can't figure out why.

You should get sorted in the morning. It could have been incorrect details, GoMo would be Bill-pay / Registered / Single or Multi line account and your account number.

Ok, thanks. I think when I was filing in the switch form, I put down that Gomo was PAYG....maybe that's why? Didn't think it was Bill pay

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,077 ✭✭✭NotShero

Yeah that would be it, it's Bill-pay. It would get rejected if the wrong account type is entered. They'll ask for your GoMo account number then, once Bill-pay is selected.

Would 48 be considered Bill pay?

I could not see an account number associated with my phone number in app or on my monthly transaction so assumed I had to choose PAYG in order, to order a sim to port over to Clear?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,077 ✭✭✭NotShero

48 is Prepay/PAYG - Registered. Yeah, no account number for Prepay.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,841 ✭✭✭shineon23

Perfect, thanks very much, this is what I assumed until I read the issue that was mentioned above with GOMO port.

Yeah with GoMo and Clear Mobile you are charged after usage, so it's Bill-pay. With 48, you pay in advance for the monthly plan and need to add credit for out of plan charges, so it's Prepay/PAYG.

There's a €30 cap by default on out of plan charges with GoMo and Clear.

    "Your customer details"

, the CONTINUE button isnt clickable

Click on the referral link, fill in your name and email & you will receive an email.

Click on the "your magic link" in the email and then "Join now" on the Clear Mobile page. Fill in your details and that's it.

Very strange experience with VM Mobile yesterday. I'm out of contract with them and their €15 a month SIM only deal is on offer (I know there are better SIM only offers out there at present, but I've always been happy with the VM service). I called to get the deal, basically change from my current plan to that €15 plan and was told by the agent that the €15 plan was just if you were adding SIMs to your existing deal. I'd some general back & forth questions with her, because that didn't sound right to me and I had not seen it advertised in that manner. Anyway, that was it, she said she couldn't sell me the deal.

I finished the call, did some more browsing online and couldn't find anything about it being a case that current customers, who are out of contract, can't avail of the €15 deal. I called again, speaking with next agent and he's not phased at all that I want to swap to the €15 plan and says no problem at all, he tries to sell me a few add-ons, which I decline, then says OK someone will call you and will arrange for you to change to the new plan. I asked why he can't do it then and he said it needs to be sales team (no idea what team he was on), so they'll call me. I never got a phone call from them. So I'm less happy with VM service now than I was in the first paragraph.

Any recommendations on a particular service? From reading through the thread most seem to be moving from GoMo to Clear, though it's not quite clear how long Clear's €9.99 plan would remain valid for, as it's not advertised "for life" or 12 months, etc. Sky have a deal for €12.99 until 10th Dec, but their service sounds sketchy too from some reports.

no idea what VMs actual offer is. It’s been €15 (for life) on 12 month contract way before Black Friday. And they have reseat they offer counter as well.
Since VM offers arguably the worst bang for your buck. No 5G, no VoLTE, no wireless calling. Nearly all other providers should be step up. have look here for comparison.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Irish_mobile_virtual_network_operators.

Leave network coverage. Not all will be same as a three network in your place. Tesco mobile an 48 use same network, so they would.
If it’s bad atm, clear or gomo might be better.

If roaming is important , they are all similar.

clear does state price is same for until the agreement to use the offer ends as per t&c. But bet you even the “for life” offers can be changed. If they do change at some point, switch to better offer.

It really depends on what is important to you.

Had to cancel my 9.99 Clear Mobile sim unfortunately. I am based in Leixlip and the coverage was poor. Found it tricky getting thru to their support. I don't use "the Facebook" so my only means to contact them was via web chat which is not always available due to high demands at present. A message advises when webchat is too busy to using other mediums like Facebook or X. However when I queried them about contacting them on X over webchat they then advised that X is no longer used by them...

Support tried resolving my issue but could give anymore advice than was already in their online help section. I tried Sim in two different phones and same outcome.

I thought also if I got their SIM and was satisfied with the service I could Port my number over but you can't do that either, you must specify you wish to port upon ordering. So if service had been suitable I would have had to place new order anyway!

That was my experience with this 9.99 offer.

Just wondering why Clear Mobile had poor service for you as it’s on the VF network? I have a VF account and the service has always been good enough.

One of my lads is on an €18 pm A Post contract which is very expensive so I was considering moving his to Gomo as the other lad in on Gomo already and he seems happy with it. However was also considering the Clear Mobile option as it’s cheaper.

Is there any reason not to opt for Clear over Gomo? Is the Eir network generally better than VF?

    Splitting hairs, depends on location.

If it's equal, I'd go clear as gomo/eir are using 4g to power 5g in many places.

Gomo dashboard is better. However clear gave us black Friday price, gomo gave us 2 fingers.

Just wondering. Did you get this sorted? Currently having the same issue, as I thought Gomo was payg. I did contact support around noon today and they said they'd push it through. Still nothing so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 599 ✭✭✭R11

Support wasnt available on their site so I contacted them through Facebook. Said they were sending details to the team and number would be ported in 24-48 hours....won't happen until Monday I reckon

That I don't understand either as was using an app to identify what masts I was bouncing off and it seemed I was connecting to neighboring modem / router devices rather than known local masts.

Disappointed about it as a good deal and VF is decent in this area. Phones are an S21 and Pixel 8a too so not shabby either.

I'm currently porting two numbers from Tesco to GoMo, one is "In Progress" since 3pm yesterday.

The other one failed for some reason, took 30 mins to get through to the support, but they pushed it through again this morning, was supposed to happen at 12, only went through about an hour ago.

I was in currys in sligo today , and noticed a big poster behind the counter for sky mobile, usual 12.99 month but noticed that they offering €100 voucher. I know it's 12 month contract but works out a good deal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,777 ✭✭✭✭zell12

What is the voucher for? A coupon for spend X get 100 off?

I am using Team Spirit package from Virgin media. I want to change my operator to Clear, which has 9.99 deal. Do I need to call virgin media to cancel or end my contract? or would it be okey if I just sign up to Clear with my existing Virgin media number, and they will sort that out?

    Response from AI was :

When switching from Virgin Media to Clear with their €9.99 deal, you do not need to call Virgin Media directly to cancel your current contract. Instead, you should sign up with Clear and request to port (transfer) your existing Virgin Media number to Clear. Clear will typically handle the process of transferring your number for you.

To clarify, the usual process involves:

Signing up with Clear and specifying that you want to keep your existing Virgin Media number.

Clear then initiates the number porting request with Virgin Media.

Once the porting is complete, your service with Virgin Media will be ended automatically, and you will start your Clear service with your old number.

If you are still under contract with Virgin Media, check if early termination fees apply as switching mid-contract may incur charges. However, if your contract has ended, the switch should be smoother without penalties. Also, Virgin Media generally requires 30 days' notice for cancellation if done manually, but number porting typically handles this for you when switching providers.

In summary, just signing up with Clear and initiating the porting of your Virgin Media number is the recommended route—they will coordinate with Virgin Media to transfer your number and end your Virgin contract accordingly; no need for a separate cancellation call unless you want to cancel manually without porting the number.

The AI is correct on this occasion. You don’t need to contact Virgin at all.

Yeah you just select to port your number when ordering, you can't port it later on with Clear. The SIM card will come in the post and the port will be carried out on the day you've selected.

No need to tell Virgin anything as long as you are not still in a 12 month contract, then you'd face early cease charges.

Virgin Media is Bill-pay / Registered and they'll ask for your Virgin account number.
