To start it off, anyone going to Dungarvan next weekend?

It all kicks off for me next week with the first round of the Superprestige series .This year puts me close to an hour from two world cup series events, the world championships, 3 super prestige events and a host of Belgian series events.

I will also point out that cycling to a train station or bus stop will be the limit of my active involvement this year.

The first round of the domestic national series in Belfast was a superbly run event; VC Glendale put on a great show, big numbers in most grades -- although the junior grade was a bit light-- nevertheless the standard of the younger riders is phenomenal with many of them riding faster laps than the Elite and Masters in their races. Richard Barry and Doireann Killeen won the main events on the day.

Won't be in dungarvan but hoping to be in Mulllingar. Will have to see how things pan out this week mind. I've not touched the CX bike at all yet so will be interesting if I do go.

Anyone know anything about the Dungarvan course?

Can't make Dungarvan (though it'd only be as a spectator) I think - young lad has a match up in Thurles. Is there a combined calendar for the various local events anywhere?

On the Belgian front, this seems to be a handy website for links to pages and TV coverage https://rijden.uk/blog/cyclocross-on-tv/ Exact Cross in Essen on Saturday and Superprestige first round on Sunday. Both on Sporza by the looks

This time of year is where not having Discovery plus will hit!

Love watching all the various CX races in Belgium, guess I will have to go down the VPN route this year 😩

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,827 ✭✭✭Paddigol

Same. CX was the main reason I was happy to fork out for an annual sub to Eurosport, CGN and then Discovery. Couldn't be arsed messing around trying to figure out VPN options to be honest. I'm not a tech savvy head so by the time I'd mastered it they'd probably have moved the goalposts again.

The sport has just lost one set of eyes.

Expand your language skills. I now know what "Slapkammer" and "Badkammer" mean after last year 🤣

I'm not too badly off as I have TNT Sports, who show most of the World cups and some Superprestige races,

But won't be showing any of the Exactcross or X20 Trofee races, which are usually the most exciting races anyway.

Any good YouTube recap channels for CX?

That's a superb site, thanks for posting the link!

As far as I can see, Tiz cover every televised CX race live, and on delay/playback a day or so later.
That's how we'll be watching all cycling here for the foreseeable future, now that D+ have put my UK relative's sub back up to full price, so they're cancelling it, and it's no longer playing nice with my VPN here since the app 'update'.

Well round 1 of Leinster didn’t go at all to plan. Was in the top 10 after the first lap and then a broken mech hanger on the second did it for me. Gutted

Bah, humbug. Most of the Superprestige races have gone behind a pay wall in Belgium this year 😭. Pretty sure they were all on Sporza last year

Caught the last 20 mins of the Mens Europeans CX, was excellent. Group of anything from 5-8 at the front the whole time.

Saw also that Brand surprisingly didn't win the women's race.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 519 ✭✭✭gmacww

Brand didn't win the womens and I thought it would be down to a really close battle between herself and Casasola but then I saw the course. IvdH went from the gun and never looked in trouble. Great race from her. A fully healthy Fem would have ripped that up.

The mens race was quite possibly the best CX race I've ever seen. Almost a bunch sprint to finish. Amazing stuff.

Also youtube it (in particular the last lap) but the U23 race had an unreal result in it.

Really miss watching the CX on Eurosport GCN Discovery this year. Just too much hassle trying to figure it all out with the possibility/ probability that by the time I do it'll have shifted to some other provider again. It used to be so straight forward.

Yeah it's a pain. The fact too that TNT seemingly no interest at all in showing a replay of the race so it's watch live or forget it. This season however a few youtube channels have sprouted up showing full race replays albeit without commentary so as long as you don't mind that we have that. At least until the UCI likely get them taken down.

It's all live on Tiz, and the next day on demand.

UCI stream the World Cup and World Championship races on their YouTube channel with English commentary. Live is geo-restricted (I used Argentina with a VPN last year) - I thought they had the full races available after the fact, but I'm not seeing them now

No need for TNT / Discovery just a 5km spin up the road. Judging from the team car park there isn't a campervan campervan left in Belgium or the Netherlands. There was a bit of a buzz around during the week as Toon Aerts is a local lad.

Cameron Mason getting closer and closer….he's progressed loads recently.

It is nice to see both the British and Spanish national jerseys consistently towards the front at the top tier races. Nys was very frustrating to watch on Saturday, just never got into a rhythm and unsure if it was down to the national champions jersey or Toon Aerts previous transgressions but he was definitely the crowd favourite at the Superprestige on Saturday.

Leinster Champs tickets are up for Sale, it is in Kerdiffstown Park, Kildare:

Could be interesting, there is certainly a few features that could be used in the park.

Yeah I'm in two minds. I've had a very off and on season given kids activities and reckon I'd get lapped on the 2nd lap at the moment!

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 26,369 Mod ✭✭✭✭CramCycle

I would definitely have raced if there was a B / Fun race but am not sure of the joy in driving 2 hours to be lapped in 12 minutes and pulled out. Being a Champs the Comms are likely to be stricter. Might be OK if it is a long lap, any sign of the lap on social media?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56 ✭✭PJ_RS1800

I dont think any riders have got pulled when lapped in the last two Leinster Champs anyway.

I am too tired, you are of course correct. Not sure what I was thinking when I said that. Anyone see the course yet?
