You don’t think he can be classified as a paedophile because you don’t believe he was sexually attracted to children? Even if you don’t want to consider his actions because of some opaque “dominance” theory there’s another rather large logical flaw with your assessment. Why did Watkins have all that child porn stored on his computer if he wasn’t attracted to them?

They weren't big in Ireland but anyone plugged into the UK Kerrang/NME scene in the early to mid-2000s would be very familiar with them. I was a fan because they had some very good songs and saw them live once at a festival in 2012, a few months before the Watkins stuff came out. Sometimes you debate separating the art from the artist but not in this instance, I have listened to them since.

Seeing reports from some sites that the likely reason for the attack was he was failing/refusing to keep paying protection money to other prisoners. Seems like it's why he was previously attacked a few years ago and started paying again, but this time he wouldn't.

I think that the point he's trying to make was that the paedophilia was incidental to other mental illnesses.

It's kind of like the way a lot of men who abuse young boys are actually straight and the abuse has more to do with power than it does to sexual attraction.

The end effects of the abuse are still the same. It doesn't mean that they're not scum. But from a technical perspective, the cause of the abusing isn't an attraction to kids but rather a type of psychopathy.

I guess, from an academic level, this would be of interest. This kind of information can be useful in determining strategies to detect and prevent abusers. But as i said, from a non academic point of view, or when looking at the impact on victims, it doesn't really matter.

It’s not looking at anything from an academic point of view. The fact is that in Ireland in 2023 there were nearly 3,000 cases of suspected child abuse, and that’s only referrals, cases which are known -

A total of 7,819 children were referred over suspected emotional abuse, 2,906 about suspected sexual abuse and 2,622 over neglect.

There’s nothing unique about Watkins case that isn’t common to several cases where depraved individuals get off on inflicting suffering on their victims, or wallowing in watching people suffer. It wasn’t unusual either that Watkins found women who were willing to do anything he wanted them to, with his ex coming out with crap like this -

Police also found “disgusting and abhorrent” online conversations between Watkins and Mjadzelics that took place in 2011. During the conversations, indecent images of children were sent by Watkins to Mjadzelics and she sent replies saying she wanted to “play for real and ruin little sluts’ lives”.

In another exchange, Mjadzelics told Watkins: “Part of me feels you get off on showing me stuff you can get away with, knowing that is what I have wanted since forever.” She also told Watkins she thought they had a “deep connection that couldn’t be matched” and signed off one message: “Child molesters till we die.”
