I'm moving from the big smoke to the west. Going a bit mad and would love to open a business and I was thinking of a data center. Surely this would attract government funding and would create jobs? Or is our electricity too expensive? Interested to hear your thoughts!

A few years ago, Apple applied for PP to build a data centre near Athenry in Co. Galway. A few objections were lodged and, over a few years, the case went to the High Court and Supreme Court. But by the time the Supreme Court gave it the green light, Apple had thrown in the towel and announced that they had cancelled the project.

PP was recently given for a Data Center in north Mayo.

There were a number of objections, one was from Sally Rooney the author, who is from Mayo but lives no where near the proposed location.

Her objection was because of the electricity usage and the environmental impacts of same.

Someone needs to tell Sally that she would not be rich from the dramatisation of her work on the likes of Netflix if it was not for Data Centers.

Any other fairy stories we should be telling Sally at the same time?
