Is this allowed to DIY?

    Hi folks,

I'm having a bit of trouble understanding what's exactly allowed or not for DIY in Ireland.

I had a bit of an issue with some old halogen ceiling spotlights in my kitchen ceiling and I replaced around half of them by integrated LED spotlights.

This required removing the old drivers and replacing them by the new ones, which overall was pretty simple. I also had to extend one cable that was too tight (using an accessible wagobox with wago connectors).

This was before I came over the regulations which made me doubt if doing that kind of replacement is considered like for like or a significant change.

Would love some help understanding that and whether an electrician may be able to review if it's not legal for a home owner to do.

    Thanks in advance!

I'd call them hardwired I think? As in you have to put the cable connectors into the driver terminals.

I was just re-reading the regs and I think this does fall under "Minor works", since they allow like for like replacement for light fixtures and minor extensions to existing circuits (such as adding a socket to a ring or in my case, extending a wire that was too short).

I may get it inspected later just for peace of mind though
