Is it just me, or does everyone have the same ringtone nowadays?

I haven't heard my phone ring in 15yrs unless I'm wearing headphones.
What's with people having the click and/or haptic feedback turned on for the keyboards?

Fúcking psychopaths clicky clacking away ruining the silence my non-ringtone affords.

I've said recently that I find it a bit amusing that my generation was the one that was obsessed with custom ringtones on phones back in the day, but now we all have our phones on silent!

The fact these stupid click noises are on by default is a disgrace - there is zero need for them except for very few situations

im very close to moving towards a friends solution, a no sim phone!

There was a compelling beauty to the auld Polyphonic ringtone.
I'd also argue that it was a little bit of conspicuous consumption, you either bought the ringtone or knew someone who did, so you could show off with it.
Versus the banality of full fidelity recording and editing on your phone meaning you can set anything you like as your ringtone.

Does anyone even set custom ringtones for specific numbers anymore?
Like Vaders March for the Mrs 👀

Don't do custom tones by contact, but I do change the ringtone every time I change phones to one I've used for years. Plus I have 2 phones (one being my work phone) so need to differentiate them anyway.

I always used to have the Red Alert siren from Star Trek set up for my parents. They reciprocated in kind 🙃

The advantage of being raised by trekkies 🖖

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

Once, in a pub, a fella at the far end of the bar received an audible message alert.

I am somewhat embarrassed to say, I immediately recognised it as the noise the doors made when they opened and closed on the original 1960s Star Trek show.

We locked eyes for a moment and he knew I knew his terrible secret

Old school classic boring ring ring for me.

I have a ring tone, I must be old. (I am) (ish)

But at least it's not like my favourite grandad guitar riff or something. Its Frank Underwood's ringtone, different, but a ringtone.

Mine is the Beverley Hills Cop theme tune.

I refused to get a mobile back in that days when ringtones were huge. Life was so much simpler back then.

Then my family bought one for me for my 33rd birthday, more of a present for them than me. I graciously accepted it, saying Jesus was crucified when he was 33 too. 😄

Anyway, a couple of years ago, I set 10 seconds of a song as my ringtone, from 0:20 to 0:29 seconds on the clip below repeated. In certain quieter situations, I get some funny looks when I get a call…

Thats a weird one but you definitely know its your phone when that goes off.

I sometimes think my/our generation is possibly the last one that has a somewhat normal healthy relationship with their phones. Like they're useful but we're not glued to them.

I could be paired for golf with a young fella around 20 and my phone would be in my bag for the whole 3.5 hours while this kid is walking down every fairway head down looking at his 'black rectangle' and I'd be thinking to myself thank fk I'm not like that what is he even playing golf for?

I know I'm entering cranky old man territory saying this, but I'm not surprised so many young folks have attention span and so-called neurodivergent problems. This sht1 cant be good for you 24/7.

Twice today someone has been close enough to walking into me that I had to put my hands on them.

Both times dug into their phones. I'm not an aul lad yet (I hope) but it's **** pathetic

What's the Android ringtone you're on about?

From what I can hear, iPhone users never move past this one

Don't bother with a ringtone anymore - just have the phone on vibrate mode as it is synced with my smartwatch.
