Conflicting information over timing belt

Due a service on a 201 Ford Fiesta 1L Ecoboost at 100k kms and non Ford garage said timing wet belt needs to be done at a cost of €1200.

I rang Ford garage for second opinion but they said 150k miles. Who is right?

Personaly I would not run any timing belt longer that 5 years and never to 150k Miles. I am not usre but I think that is a wet belt engine and if so I'd be changing oil every 5k miles and the belt at a max of 50k miles. Note that is miles and not Kms.

Wet belts need meticulous oil changes with the correct oil so whomever that Ford garage that said 150k mikes / 240,000kms has not got a clue.

Wet belts get bad press but with proper maintenance they are fine. The initial service intervals when they were introduced were much too long and Ford have reduced that but I would reduce it even further. Its not a cheap job either but several independents doing the full kits with proper parts. Thats what I would research as its out of warranty at this stage,

wet belt is 40 - 60 km now, if your using the correct oil, get it done.

It's not called a Ford Ecoboom for nothing. Get it changed before it goes boom.

Ford dealer is correct. 150,000 miles / 240,000 km or 10 years.

You don’t necessarily have to change it now, just get the belt and oil sump inspected every year during your annual service.

That's almost impossible unfortunately due to the design you have to cut the exhaust to remove the sump which is ridiculous

no, ford changed this recently to 6 years and 100k miles, IF YOU USED THE CORRECT OIL, which most dont, if your unsure its advised for 60k miles (100kkm) (again, presuming its a wetbelt engine)

id agree tbh, too much ambiguity on it, ford chaging service invervols offically for some engines, and not others using similar designs, mechanics not knowing to use specific oils for the engines ect ect, too many issues without info.

If its a 2020 Fiesta it could we have the redesigned engine driven by a chain instead of a belt, OP have you checked?

Yeah I’ve seen tons of videos of people opening up the sump to inspect the belt and oil strainer etc

turns a €150 service into a €300 service, not every has the tools, time and want to diy it.

Try removing one and come back to me, it's all one piece from the turbo to the center exhaust section and the fasteners are just dust after as little as 1 year

Its certainly possible to remove it but it requires replacement in most cases and a significant increase in labour time hence the tsb to cut the exhaust

Apologies if hijacking the post but slightly related. My brother has been told by the garage that his 2019 1.5D Focus has an "issue with the timing chain" and is going to cost €3-4k to fix. What kind of issue costs 3-4k? Is that an engine rebuild?

Strange since I'm almost certain that engine has a belt not a chain and it's SOHC so no chain between 2 cams or anything
