Incoherent TD"s

SSeriously ! I've just been listening to Michael Collns independent TD from West Cork on the radio and I've recently heard Danny Healy Rea + Mattie McGrath. Seriously wtf, how did these guys even get through the education system sounding like they just escaped from somewhere. And when they get excited or argumentative that's it no idea what language they're even speaking! I know plenty of people from their areas of the country and they don't sound like that, are they doing it for a bet or something.

I always assumed that's an old Limerick thing. People of that age also say Willum and filum when talking about things like the English prince or a movie.

Didn't help that Noonan's time was a decade where budgets were about how many billen we had to cut.

Noonan also used to refer to years without the 0 in them. "2-14 through 2-16" sort of stuff.

The Healey-Rae stuff is partially an act, although possibly less of it is put on with Danny than with Michael. The father was a jazz saxophonist, they've siblings in high places in law, they're multi millionaires - they're not entirely thick and neither was the father.

I remember tuning into to an online discussion about law and order featuring two TDs before the last election. I suspect one of them might have been the then Minister of State for Justice. Neither of them seemed capable of debating above primary school level.

Little wonder there are so many problems with the country when you see the amount of barely literate pothole fixers in Government.

Michael Collins is particularly bad. He's a farmer so may have left "the education system" at age 15 or 16 to work the land as many do. But his incoherence doesn't seem to bother many of the voters in Cork South West, as he tops the poll every time! (He's from Lowertown, near Schull, so he probably went to the same school as Holly Cairns TD, who hasn't got the same difficulty with the English language!)

I heard a TD on the radio a year or two back, can't remember who but they said pacificly and also used a word that didn't fit the sentence at all. I'm not suggesting TDs have the heart and soul groomed out of them but a few elocution/debating lessons wouldn't go astray.

There are 32 counties in the whole of Ireland. Each has its own dialect, it's very childish of someone anonymous to come on here putting people down because of the accent they talk in. What next? Their looks, their clothes, their smell, nose, teeth, car, house? The mind boggles. I find it beautiful that we have that regional variation in how we talk. So many young people today have what I would call a TV accent. Personally I find it very boring but maybe that's what the OP wants, he/she doesn't really say what they find acceptable. Perhaps they could let us in on that secret? Oh, I love the Andrex smooth toilet paper as a tissue for my nose, love slurping tea from a saucer but is that ok, or is saying ok, ok? Most of us are but a generation or two away from abject poverty, nice to hear an Irish accent in all its glory in our hard fought Goverment, media and general population. Long may it continue. A lot of boomers didn't go very far through the education system, they quit school at 15, never went to college and spent their teenage years working the family farm or business.

And yet they feel the greatest sense of entitlement to rule over the rest of us.

As the thread title makes clear, we're not discussing accents here we're discussing incoherence, a different thing altogether.

A bit of waste of time criticising TDs, we get what we vote for, local people, as is all politics, in Ireland.

I happen to live in Collins country, so does Holly Cairns, this represents the area quite well.

Personally, I find it incoherent that the media is so worried about being "blocked" by the sources of political comment, the "handlers" of the ministers, that they put up with what they get, in terms of spokepeople.

You never or hardly ever, get a representative of the government on the main radio stations until after 8am, when the audience is bigger, and only when the spokesperson has a line they want to spout.

Just read the IT review of Veradkar's (ghost wriiten) book. Talk about incoherent. He left because he didn't get the praise he wanted as a brilliant pol, since his early days.

We have phrase "notions" which perfectly describes him and many pols. Who do they think they are?

If he was reading a prepared script for the first time into the Dáil record, he often could not be understood and did not make sense. I remember what I think was his resignation speech as Taoiseach when he referred to his political foes impugning his integrity which he literally pronounced as "im-puggining". Awful to hear from the leader of the country in parliament.
