Thinking of buying a 2012 Porsche Panemera or a Cayenne. it will be a change up from A5.

It will be my first Porsche purchase, so any advice welcome or anything specific I need to look out for when buying.

I had a 2012 Cayenne and wasn’t overly impressed by it. They’re fairly outdated at this point. Never drove a Panamera but most of them are very tired examples with high mileage these days

What year is your A5? The Porsche will be 14 years old in a few months so chances of some stuff needing sorting, Not too bad if you are willing to do stuff yourself but if you need Porsche Dublin then put aside a budget for anything that might happen as it won't be cheap. Some indys out there that you can use also but that aside parts are still juicy.

There are good reasons to buy a Porsche but I don't think a 2012 cayenne or panamera are good buys . If it was a 911 or boxster at that age you would say they are something special at least and there is not much that can compete with them

Definitely not worth going for older car just for Porsche badge . I would sooner buy a 3 litre A7

I think you'd be mad to change to an older Porsche. They aren't even special cars. They are VW 3 litre diesels

Is that the second gen A5? If it is I think it may feel like a step back in terms of tech. You don't say what engines you are considering in the Porsches so unless its the V8s or Turbos I don't know if its worth the change aside from the Porsche cache and badge recognition. Definitely go and test drive a few and check online for reviews and issues but keep in mind you will mostly hear the horro stories online so that would be your worst case scenario. The majority of them are probablty running away with no real drama.

To be honest I don't know much about the diesels but you will probably be adding 15k to your A5. It might be better to put that 15k into a 2002 / 2003 986 Boxster as a summer / weekend toy. They are at the bottom of the depreciation curve, simple to work on and lots of parts and experience out there. Plus you get the full Porsche flat six experience in probably one of the best handling cars ever made. You will have to put uo with the "couldn't afford a 911 & hairdressers Porsche" comments but that hairdressers edition not be embarassed by many cars including 911's on twisty R & L roads. Keep the A5 for the daily slog and have something really fun for when it suits.

The Audi A8 D4 would be a much better buy if you’re looking for a car in this segment with that 3L diesel engine.

I agree but I don't think he's looking for a luxury car . Deerpark sold a lovely 2019 one recently . Dark blue with tan leather. Don't like s line spec in a luxury car
