Ivomec injected intramuscularly by accident

As above I injected yearling heifers with ivomec intramuscularly by accident yesterday, they should have been done subcutaneously.

Has this happened anyone else?

What should I do about it?

No problem. I'd imagine under the skin acts slower and the drug works over a longer period than into the muscle.

worst thing that will happen is they might get an access on the injection site

Don't worry about it, Dextomax, is under the skin for cattle and pigs, intramuscular for sheep.

Something similar have a heifer that is unbelievable nervous that could do with dosing have tried a few times in the crush have no head scoop and an oral dose is out of the question, have done with pour on but still coughing, was thinking of injecting with ivomec… probably struggle to get her head still to do it right under the skin on the side of the neck could i give her the injection above the tail to one side, would it work?

Just imagine you were the animal which would be more sore? If it were me I'd make sure an animal is before her in the crush and pack tight behind her. Pull some neck skin and inject fast. Those types of animals should be given little or no space in a crush.

The vet gave an injection under the skin one day for me and it was behind the shoulder he went in rather than the neck.

Most vets advise behind the shoulder so to avoid possible neck lumps for tb testing , the neck is best however as there is more flesh to take in the product. we try to use the neck at the side the animal won't be tb tested on.

Yes always opp side to tb side. A good rub after injection usual prevents those lumbs from forming.
