there is but its a unifi 10gb poe++ brand new one

Have you any other poe devices coming off the switch? Camera etc? Could be a limit on these of 100Mbs. Then the switch would potentially configure the ports to 10/100 automatically?

My fritz!box has settings where certain ports can be put into eco mode, wouldn't be something like that? Could you test the wire with something else, like two computers end to end, and see what transmission rate is showing there?

Nope nothing else.. i think its a wait and see on the connection front to see if that helps

Just to close this out. I ordered a new cable from Amazon at the weekend to try it out. With the new cable I was getting full speed on Wi-Fi over the ap well much better anyway north of 500mbps. Cable guy is due back tomorrow but when I reconnected the old cable and put the ap back on the ceiling I'm still getting the 500mbps over the ap. Rebooted the router and ap a few times to be sure. I guess the cable wasn't seated fully in the socket. There was also a little dust in the port so maybe that wasn't helping.

I do have another issue with the dream router 7. I wanted to use the sfp port as a lan port and bought a unifi sfp to rj45 port. I plugged it in and in the port config converted the sfp to lan but it's not working. I'm getting tx signal error. I contacted unifi who troubleshooted but have decided to do an RMA. Trouble is I can't be without the system for working from home and I'm not sure how long the RMA process will take. I could go back to my virgin media router and try use the wifi on it with an extender for a week but that feels like torture. Anyone else have experience of sfp to Ethernet or the RMA process?

Thanks for all the suggestions re the speed.

    Mick

You should be able to test the wired speed using iPerf from the command line if you SSH into the access point.

His is your WFH setup impacted by the SFP port not working? Doesn’t the UDR have multiple RJ45 lan ports you could use instead?

Only experience I have with SFP to RJ45 on unifi is that they did an update a while back that made my HPE transceivers misbehave in the reporting software. Data still flowed, but the router got confused about where in the network some of the clients were connected!

Since, then I have used Unifi SFPs and had no issue. they do get hot though!

my wfh is impacted if i send the udr7 back for rma.. i have a small switch running which gives me the extra lan port i need but i could remove this if i had the sfp port working correctly.. i have 3 devices i need to plug in wired.. along with the port in use for the access point.. home assistant server, hue hub and a strarling home hub for homekit to home assistant for some devices i use

Doh! Thought the RMA referred to the SFP module.

i have two of the sfp to lan convertors as i ordered one extra by mistake.. so i know its not the converter

re the hot comment.. i noticed they were hot when plugging out.. support suggested its abnormal.. ill just bite the bullet and do the rma.. i suspect maybe there's a software issue but if the replacement is just the same ill keep the switch in play

RJ45 transceivers tend to run a lot hotter than fibre I'm not suggesting that's the cause of your problem by any means.

    So did I! :o

    Re:
    experience with RMAs
You could suggest to them that they do a cross shipping RMA (if they dont already offer it)?
I've done that with Netgear switches before. Maybe Unifi can do the same, where they take a creditcard authorisation, send you a new product, then give you like a month to return the faulty one with a prepaid label before they charge your card.

Unfortunately they won't do that unless you have unifi care which I don't.. I offered to buy it but you can't post purchase. Id be happy to pay a deposit of full price and be refunded later

Ordered another unit that I knew I could return it same issue with the sfp port and low behold same issue. I guess it's a software or hardware issue with the dream router 7.
