    "Message last updated: 12:23

    Tickets are sold out"

That's showing for each day when you join the queue. Oh well :(

Below were the ticket prices, all fixed, no dynamic pricing. I don't know how people were getting charged some of the prices mentioned here (£76, £112, £114, £214, £324), is there some additional fee on top or something?

    The O2, London, UK

    Standing: £85
    Seating: £75 / £99 / £145 / £195
    "Fast-Track Status" VIP seating: £295

Seems to be a few becoming available, for the Tuesday at least.

But they seem to be all £160+ for seats in the 400 sections which is more than I'm willing to pay.

I'll hold out a bit longer to see if any standing come up but don't have much hope!

Just an idea for those who didn't get tickets for London, maybe try Copenhagen or Berlin? Seems to have been alot easier get those this morning so resales should be available and flights are not too expensive

I got a code for london, set my reminder for wrong date . A friend text me if I was going, so went onto website. All sold out 2 hours previously.

My fault but I miss the old days when it wasn't every man and his dog seeking tickets.

there will be resales at some point, not much consolation but worth keeping an eye out

Why is it just so hard to get tickets for gigs nowadays?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 118 ✭✭Ekano

Nobody goes for pints anymore. They spend money on events. Maybe some people like showing off the attendance at the event on social media?

People were queing for hours on end and being left disappointed previously.
Ireland gets an enormous amount of big shows now, we have an enormous appetite for concerts and apart from a few dozen shows a year out of thousands out on its easy to get tickets.

The introduction of pre sales in the last decade or do has made the process more convoluted for a small category of shows.

due to nature of ireland we sometimes suffer being skipped by touring acts on every other tour, this increases the demand when they do return

i remember the olympia and the point could sell out quickly, and mega acts like u2 people queued overnight for. Radiohead at its height was playing the RDS and Punchestown, I think you could buy tickets on the day for those ones

people’s consumption and variety of music choices has expanded with streaming. There was previously logistical and financial bottlenecks for people to become fans of a wider range of music.

The covid years also redefined the perceived value of social events.

You only have to take Irish home rugby matches as an example.

Half the crowd haven’t a clue about rugby and are there for a day out. Instahuns and dates galore. The atmosphere is sh1t and the prices are through the roof.

The average fan is now in competition with “influencers” making money by just being there and taking selfies. The ticket is a meal ticket. There’s also a huge demand by those who just have to be there to say they were there and post pictures for clout.

Add legal touting facilitated by promoters ala Radiohead is worse than ever.

there isn’t thousands of influencers at ireland rugby matches.
the reason the atmosphere is dead at Ireland rugby matches is corporate tickets and its historic audience. Rugby is a middle to upper class sport, its foundational aspects in Ireland and England are tied to fee paying schools and this is most evident at international matches.
International are by and large a social day out/reunion for men/woman of a certain social class and schooling background and who through their employment industries get complimentary tickets or have easy access to them.

Ireland is the ultimate FOMO/bandwagon country for gigs etc. Probs due to the size of the country. Once a gig/event has a certain level of general interest, guaranteed to sell out coz it is now an event that must be attended because everyone else is.

i think the bandwagon aspect is overplayed in commentary here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,710 ✭✭✭COH

Influencers and FOMO bandwagons are much easier to complain about though then the actual problems.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,879 ✭✭✭Fanirish

yeah like no one was suffering oasis, Coldplay or Garth brook tickets queues for a FOMO bandwagon.
off course some people will tag along to Events that they aren’t super fans of cause friends/partners are going. Not the end of the world

Re your point "People were queing for hours on end and being left disappointed previously" - not the same now. Before there was some comfort that tickets were being taken by others that made the effort to go in and queue. Now tickets taken by those with fastest internet connections and deepest pockets. Hence poor atmosphere at many gigs now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,879 ✭✭✭Fanirish

rose tinted nostalgia that when ticketmaster outlets existed and it was hard tickets only that people weren’t buying 4 or 5 tickets and touting them to highest bidder.
it was a worse shitshow given time queing never knowing how tickets the outlet would get.

I’m not sure where this whole poor atmosphere line is coming from. Been to hundreds of gigs post covid and not one I can think of had terrible atmosphere.
