Just bought a Gamecube!

It's in great condition, saw it tested and working. It's a PAL Gamecube from Ireland, and it is the DOL-001 variant.

But it doesn't come with a HDMI adaptor so I need to source my own.

I know there are a few different options, Carby being one, also the Retro-Bit Prism looks interesting as does EON GCHD Mk-II. I have no other consoles and don't intend on getting more, so not looking at the mad expensive RetroTink stuff, unless someone can perusade me otherwise?

Thoughts welcome.

What are the games that you are planning to play with Gamecube?

Curious as it's a console I never got a chance with. In my group of friends, the n64/psx battle was fairly 50:50 but then it just seemed like ps2 took over in a big way.

I've had fantastic results using an OSSC (Open Source Scan Converter). The latest version is OSSC 1.8.

With OSSC you can set up different profiles for various consoles.

The Retrobit Prism is more than enough if just looking to get a straightforward single HDMI connection and not bothering with any other consoles. All the options over similar levels of quality as they are all derived from the GCvideo project, so for the price, the Prism is generally the best option - far easier to upgrade firmwares with USB, included remote etc. The EON does allow for simultaneous Wii/Component/Scart cable output, but the actual Gamecube HDMI support is no different than the other options

The PS2 was a much better console but there were loads of amazing games on the GameCube. Most times each release felt like an event that is drop the PS2 for to play. Most have got ported to other platforms but still some good exclusives on there.

Thanks for the replies.

In particular will be looking to play F-Zero. Also the Rogue Squadron games, Metroid and Ikaruga as well.

I will definitely get the Game Boy player as well and build a collection of the various Gameboy games. I will probably go the whole hog and get a boxed version of this, paying through the nose (the prices really are shocking) as I want to build a collection of boxed stuff.

Once I get all the bits and play with the original, I will probably mod it, maybe the FlippyDrive. Haven't decided on mods yet - that will be influenced by the Gameboy Player.

I was a SNES / GameBoy fan back in the day, didn't like the N64 and after that went towards PC games. Very nearly bought a Gamecube in 2002 / 2003 when the price was reduced but decided to spend the money on PC games instead. Then the GC went out of production. So all these years later I am correcting a mistake!
