Hello everyone. My question is has anyone here ever had to get a logbook where the previous owner can't be traced. I purchased a bike 12yrs ago as a project but fell on hard times and put it to the side. In the last few months I've got it finished but have no logbook. The owner at time of purchase didn't have it and sold me a story. I know of the declaration that gets stamped and signed by a solicitor but has anyone actually done this themselves. the bike is an nsr125 lovely bike and too good to scrap.

Yeah I phoned the office in Shannon and they send the form out to you.

You need to bring the bike and the form to the garage, the garage basically verifies what the VIN number is, fill that part of the form in and put their stamp on it. It wasn't a SIMI registered dealer that I went to, it was a local family run garage that don't sell cars.

Then just get it signed and witnessed by a commissioner of oaths, or peace commissioner or whatever they're called then send it off from what I remember and that was it!

Did you get the form from Shannon or tax office and was there a certain type of garage that had to do the stamp because I remember once hearing it had to be a similar registered garage but form I saw online just says motor dealer. Thanks any advice welcome

Thanks. Yeah that's seems about what I had been able to work out. I asked a few garages around and they didn't wanna even look at it incase I was doing something dodgy but If I was I wouldn't be trying get the logbook.

Its not their job to determine if the car is stolen or anything like that. I believe the tax office do a search with the gardaí if its been reported stolen or anything like that. The garage just need to verify the VIN number on the bike and put it on the form and then stamp it to say they did that. They'll hear no more about it.
