Ducting

    Hello everyone.

We live in an estate in Wicklow built in the 80's where there was no duct into the house.

I've discovered that without this, fibre with the likes of Virgin & Siro are impossible as it's a no go area if there's no duct. We're also not in the catchment area for NBI. We are part of the fibre rollout according to the OpenEir website but it gives no timeline.

Has anyone come across a situation where OpenEir has gone into an area and fitted fibre where there was no ducting/new ducting had to be installed? I can't imagine pulling up peoples driveways was a runner so I assume some sort of boring machine was used? OpenEir surely has an idea what they're going to do as this seems common place the more I look online.

Are there telephone poles? If there are, they will be used by OpenEir.

Then where do telephone lines run into people's houses?

you most likely be joining the others in the Urban Blackspots, where likes of Siro are either unwilling or unable to rollout.

our estate was 70s but we do have Eircom poles, but homeowner will not grant permission to access the pole, so upgrades can not be rolled out. leaving around 70 house with no access to fiber.

From My reading these areas which currently expected to around 150k and counting are to be addressed. but this will not happen until, NBI, EIR.SIRO and VM have completed their roll outs.

guess some areas expecting homeowners to change their Tune when they shut off the old copper network in 2030,

more on it in this thread
