Building you're own roads

I was wathcing a thing on youtube last night about people in America wanting to build their own roads, would we be able to do that here?

Couple of people sorting things out for themselves.

Rent a digger and a bit of tarmacadden

job done.

It has happened here and in the UK yep. They sometimes toll them. The small ones I guess usually aren't tolled. Most are very obviously private.

Farmers build their own roads on their land all the time.

They can even get grant aid to do it.

Are there any news on this relief road?

OP, farmers did it around here but even with grants and having a lot of your own equipment to hand, it wasn't cheap.

i know it's not what you're discussing but …

load of civil engineers and contractors reading that going why the hell did I study all those years for a degree in civil/structural engineering.

"You are". Use of the contraction in this instance makes it more informal in nature whereas using the full "you are" gives more weight to the point

You'd be wasting a lot of money putting down a surface without adequate excavation and filling.
