    Hi all,

Anyone know what this sound might be? It’s intermittent so wasn’t there when it was in for a service recently. Car is an ‘09 VW Golf

    thanks!

Something caught between the dust cover and brake disk? Or worn brake pads and a seized calliper that has them lightly rubbing the brake disk. I'm almost certain it's something rubbing on the brake disk anyway. Is the wheel that it's coming from warm/hot to touch after a decent length of driving?

sounds like the brakes, pads worn or discs warped?

I’ll check next time to see if the wheel is hot. Thanks.

would the mechanic not have flagged worn brake pads during a full service?

Generally will only look them over quickly unless you specifically ask them to look at them.

When was the full service done? On a car of that age seized calipers are not uncommon and can wear the pads very quickly.

Brake Pad Wear Indicator. Does the noise stop when you brake ? If so , then it's probably worn Pads.

OH and the VW golfs I have had of that vintage always had a sticky caliper to be replaced :)

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Much appreciated. The service was yesterday. Other than the noise there hasn’t been any noticeable issues (brake, performance, etc.).

I've had many sticking callipers but no noise due to that. Noise was always the guard rubbing against the disc.

Heat shield. Give it a few bangs of a hammer if you can

A hammer? daaaamn! You overestimate my ability to not break things! :)
