'For the most part'? Is it ever a conscious choice? I'm not gay and don't know any more about it than the average Joe but I would think it is never a conscious choice, you may suppress it but it doesn't alter the basic fact. In the same way that a child forced to use their right hand is still left handed.

By and large in modern liberal democracies I agree, however there are shades of grey as is normal.

People who wouldn't normally see themselves as 'gay' will sometimes engage in same-sex sexual activity when deprived/restricted in having sex with others of a different sex.

Human sexuality isn't black-white, gay-straight.

The same for your assumption about grey area in sexuality. This may apply to some but not to me.
