Signing passport card

    I recently received my first Irish passport card.
    The instructions are to sign it with a ball point pen.
    I’ve tried 5 or 6 pens, which all work on paper, and none will write on the little signature strip!


    I work in town so called into the passport office. None of their pens would work. Chap on the desk suggested I try a felt tip marker and let it dry. Wtf.

    Any suggestions?

    I used a fine tip Sharpie. Any fine tip permanent marker will work, and last

    I've been using a passport card for the last three years.

    Just checked, and I never signed it.

    Not sure what difference a signature makes.

    some border guards are sticklers on having it signed, and will also check passports to make sure they are signed and throw a hissy fit if it isnt

    I signed my new one a couple of weeks ago with one of them BIC 4-colour pens. No problem at all. Sounds like there's something up with your specific card.

    I had a passport control officer advise me to sign it but was no issue that it wasn't . I never bothered renewing it. I've a full passport and it does the job.

    Just signed mine with a BIC biro, though i don't think its essential

    Its a really handy card to have in the wallet - especially if you travel to UK/Europe regularly or just for ID purposes if ever required.

    If travel is outside the EU, full passport is required
