It has since been clarified that the only thing being geoblocked is the BBC Sounds app itself, all third party methods of accessing BBC Radio content, as well as direct links to the streams on the BBC website itself, will remain available.

Clear App cache and data. Sounds remains accessible with VPN.

All stations and podcasts available through the BBC Sounds app on an LG tv.

Not an invitation to discuss methods of circumventing regional restrictions please - there are plenty of legal ways of accessing this content.

A totally honest question - Is using a VPN actually illegal?

Whether or not it is illegal is irrelevant in this context, it is that fact that discussing circumventing regional restrictions is against the charter that is.

Posing the question is itself off topic for this thread.

    I beg to differ.

Yes, a VPN is legal to use and also in Ireland. In general geographic restriction is only for those who provide any content to legally restrict the avialability to a certain pre-defined geography, which means they comply with the law. If you're using a VPN it is you as a user to make that step to access that content out of your own initiative not the provider of the content. So legally you're both in the clear and nobody is circumventing anything here.

See it like this, you're paying more for a subscirpion of a newspaper which is inteded to be sold and marketed in a different country.

You're also not, I repeat not, circumventing any laws by listening to BBC radio in Ireland.

This can be either via Virgin Media or any other website streaming BBC stations, you can also put up a Yagi antenna and get BBC radio via FM or DAB from either NI or Wales.

Radio enthusiasts have been doing this ever since radio practically existed.

I don't if it's general or some kind of error with the BBC with the geo blocking of the Sounds App or some quirke on my phone, but the BBC Sounds app is working perfectly on my phone today ( without vpn ). It wasn't on Monday, I was getting the shut down message etc.

I accepted new terms and conditions on Monday and can only access Radio4 and World Service, on my phone and all radio stations on tv app, no podcasts on either, neither have a VPN. I can get podcasts, with ads, on my Internet radio, again no VPN.

I didn't accept any new terms and conditions, I wonder is that why I can still get full Sounds app ? ( Still there this morning).

I still have full service on sounds without resorting to anything that we can't discuss

Just checked again now, all stations on tv, no podcasts. Stations and podcasts on Internet radio, no work arounds in either case.
