Best Extender For FRITZ!Box 7530 AX

Im with digiweb 500Mb fibre + fritz!box 7530 ax. Happy with the setup but the wifi doesnt go far enough for when I want to watch netflix, IPTV etc. outside on the patio.

Thinking about an extender for the opposite corner of the house (kitchen) which would do the job as the patio is not far outside the window.

Would this cover it or should I be looking at something else?

Would like it to be plug and play. No messing with network settings if possible.

Yeah that should work fine but at €150 you could have your own “mesh” setup instead. Digiweb might look for the router back at the end of the contract if you wanted to switch and you’d just be left with an extender.

With your own “mesh” setup if you did ever want to switch you could just leave your own set up connected and just change the PPPoE settings. You would no longer have to bother with the ISP routers, just connect your own to the ONT.

I have a few things fully cabled and tplink plugged with gigabit ports so a bit higher spec required if I was to go this route but definitely a good option.

I really like the fritz!box and its interface so still kinda leaning towards the fritz extender. I guess maybe a cheaper extender would seal the deal. I just saw this 1 on digiweb's site.

Extenders or mesh setups with no backhaul band will only get you half the speed of the main router WiFi at the very best, unless you hardwire them with Ethernet. Don’t go by the speed advertised, these are always incorrect in the real world and the speeds of bands are added together.

ASUS products have ASUS-WRT and have loads of options similar to Fritzbox.

And mixing different brands routers and extenders might cause handoff issues with devices, it might be grand but it’s best to keep within an ecosystem.

But I suppose you could just buy a Fritzbox router if you did have to give back the router and get that extender.

I had the same setup as you and ended up getting two more Fritz! Box 7530AX boxes on CEX for €48 each, also got some 30m runs of CAT8 to link them together.

Super stuff. Didn't know fritz!boxs were on CEX at that price! I think I'll go for that as can use 2nd fritz!box as a dedicated PCVR box when required. Ive always wanted to do that but couldn't justify another router for that only. However for 48 euro it will serve 2 purposes for me sitting in office just above kitchen. Nice👍

Edit: I got this cable before and it gives me the full 500Mb for IPTV so will get it again. My house isnt big.

It seems the Fritz!box 7530 (non AX model) can be used as a wireless repeater:

However the AX cannot and has to be cabled as a repeater:

Anyway good to know as I was going to try wireless but will get my wall drilling plan sorted for cabling now 👍️

the 7530 AX model cannot be used as a wireless repeater and has to be cabled.

Maybe they've updated the firmware…

Was getting about 5Mb on the patio. Now getting steady 90Mb through fritz!box repeater on a 100Mb tp-link plug I had spare.

FHD IPTV and all streaming running no sweat. Must get the projector going out there next good evening with 90Mb. Will cable all the way for higher speeds at a later date but more than enough for patio right now.

Glad it all worked out.

If you need to connect a work Laptop via ethernet, use Port 4 on the router and turn of Guest Access, then the two don't see each other.
