Smart LED Downlights

Hi. We're moving into a new house in a few weeks and I'd like to get a few smart downlights that will work for a motion sensor in the bathroom and hallway for the kids. The light fittings are not GU10, but the ones with the bulb and casing in one unit. Can anyone recommend something that would work for us? Thanks

if it's an LED you could just leave it on at night, it'd be cheaper than buying a motion sensor….

say 4Watts.

It's not a simple task when you don't have standard bulbs, unfortunately.

Option 1: With standard bulbs Ikea's Tradfri system would do this as you can link PIR's with individual LED bulbs directly, or otherwise invest in their hub and create the automations there manually, but that's not an option here.

Option 2 would be to invest in simple PIR controller - PIR in the ceiling or on the wall switch-plate. They would give you control over the light-levels and duration of lighting, etc.

Option 3 (my personal favourite 😁) would be to go down the route of investing in IOT devices and a controller: A Shelly in the wall switch-plate, a zigbee USB stick, Ikea PIR and a controller such as the Home Assistant Yellow. Badda-boom - you're now into the cutting edge of IOT.

Option 4 (the cost effective one): As per option 1, get a nice lamp and fit it with an Ikea bulb and pair it with a PIR and leave it powered on in the hall. Can't work in the bathroom though as you can't have power-sockets in that location.

Thanks for the comments. I think leaving the lights on is the easiest solution for now but I'm definitely interested in option 3 there 10-10-20! I'll PM you about what's needed

100% team "stick a Shelly in it", combined with 80% leave the fitting and 20% change it for something you can put a dimmer in…

Shelly dimmer making the toilet dim at night and bright during the day is magic. i find the light being on is distracting when sleeping, so I would be on the side of automating it

I stuck a Shelly up a high wall to control floodlights, but it's not happy with its position given the weak WiFi. So I might be regretting sticking to that motto. 😂

ahhh then it's team "add another node to the mesh" :D There's a technical solution for most things

new hue bridge pro is just out and will enable motion sensing via the hue light bulb. So if it were me, i'd change the fittings and get gu10 hue bulbs (white or colouredy)

and then before you know it you'll be just like AndyBoBandy and have hue bulbs everywhere.
