    Another vote for turkey.

Can I also suggest Gdansk in Poland. You'll get a beach side cottage for 4 for about 100 a night. Very hot in summer, lovely beach.

I've been to Russia, all the former Soviet countries of Central and Eastern Europe, all the former Yugoslav republics, the former Soviet countries of the Caucasus area and Albania. The worst of them was definitely Bulgaria. I thought Albania was surprisingly refreshing and lively. I wouldn't hesitate to go back.

I would recommend Albania without hesitation, and for anyone to go there before prices start to rise and mass-tourism becomes an issue like in Italy/Greece etc.

Sarrande is very popular from Corfu, at least you can get a direct flight there from Dublin and the ferry over.. same coastline as Greece but half the prices…

I went to Albania a few times, most recently last year. Really like the place. Will never go to Ksamil again. They've destroyed it. All beaches are private etc. But the rest of the country is lovely. We found our accommodation in the usual places online. Flew to Tirana via London.

Don't know if Albania will be suitable with the amount of corruption there. It's basically run by gangsters.

Simon Harris is monitoring the situation...

Lake Konstanz (or Constance as it's also spelled) and the Black Forest region. Loads to do and see and you have the excellent Europa Park nearby for a day or two of rollercoaster rides. I would recommend a car for easiest transport around but there are also great bus/train options from Konstanz to Switzerland for day trips.

Can't recommend Slovakia highly enough. Fly to Bratislava or Koisice by Ryanair and go north to the Tatras mountains by train. ( West from Kosice) . We're just back from 2 weeks and I've been going over for nearly 20 years. Never get tired of it. (Have to see the outlaws as well)

If you like the outdoors there's loads to do and see. In summer you're guaranteed good weather. We went this year at the end of June just before school finished so it was a bit quieter. Being the only person on a mountain at 1400 meters is something. It had a cable car.

Get the bus from Bratislava airport to the train station and one way 1st class is about €25.

How about a few days/week in Turkey and then a 4hr flight to Abu Dhabi where you have Ferrari world?

Old people and children live in Slovakia as well.

In the mountains there's plenty of level areas. My kids love going. Loads to do and they get to see their grandparents and can help out in the farm.

There's a light rail system in the tatras lin

king the small villages. It's hilly in parts so depends on the oldies fitness but it's not undoable.

Good transport links to the local towns.

Kids can travel free in the train, they just need a travel card gotten at the station. I only found out about it this year.

Bus service is good. Everything runs on time.

We usually hire a car which makes travel easy. You need a permit for the motorway but that's sorted by the car hire. It can be done online.

    A few photos for you.
