Re-negotiating after contract finishes...

Looking for some 1st hand experiences from customers of Pure or Eir, W.R.T what happens when the contract finishes.

When the contract is up and you call the ISP to say "I dont want to pay the new increased price", will they simply off you a new contract at whatever the current "new customer" rate is?
Or do you have to really negotiate and it depends on who you get on the phone?
Or do they play hard buggers and never offer up the introductory price again forcing you to switch ISP?

    Also,
Did anyone decline the "free" router from an ISP and get any better deal? (previously I've done this with Eir 4g where they put me on a monthly contract instead of a 12month)

with Eir i just say i want the same price as a new customer. they have always given it to me. If they won't then i move to another provider who will give the new customer price.

It does depend on the ISP, I think Digiweb and Pure would be the best at giving you close to the new customer price and maybe Vodafone? Going on some of the posts here. This is probably because with these providers there’s not as huge of a jump in the out of contract price.

I‘ve tried eir and Sky before when renewing in the past and they couldn’t offer me the new customer price. I think it does depend on the agent you get and what offers they have available to them so maybe trying to ring a few times might get you a cheaper price.

sounds like it can still be a mixed bag with the good old "switch ISP" as the backup plan.

Speaking as a Vodafone home broadband customer, they always ring me before the end of contract. I think each time they have offered me a reduction. 5 Euros off last time.

so 5 euro less than what you were paying as a new customer? or 5 euro off the "old customer" price?

Call them in advance of the contract ending and ask if they can renew at either the same price you paid for the last contract, or the new customer price, whichever is lower.

If you wait till contract ends you may be charged a higher rate for the intervening days that you are out of contract till the new contract starts.

I always ring and ask 'what can you do for me' and we go from there. eir has always made a good offer to keep me.
