Router issue after Fiber install

Had fiber broadband installed a couple of days ago, having only had copper wire broadband before that. Have been with Vodafone for the last year and stayed with them again with fiber.

The Open Eir contractor set up the fiber, he says there's a signal and it's all done from their end, but the router isn't picking it up.

Vodafone are telling me that the router needs a software update from there end before it will work. Why it's taking two days and counting for them to do this is beyond me..Has anyone else had this issue or know anything about it.

I'm using the same router as before. However the Open Eir guy also had one with him, but neither would connect.

What router are you using, are you using your own?

If it’s your own, you need to set PPPoE with -

Username - (Serial Number of Gigabox)@vfieftth.ie

(Any string of numbers & letters may work? If you don’t have the Gigabox currently)

Password - broadband

OR

Username - vodafone@vodafone.ie

Password - broadband

One of them should work and you need to set VLAN ID 10 in VLAN/IPTV settings also.

have you changed the settings per his post, you need to tag vlan 10 for sure.

Oh the Gigabox is not working? Is it a new Gigabox that was sent out to you?

It's the same gigabox I had with my old standard broadband with Vodafone. But the open eir engineer also had another one(also gigabox), but that didn't work either. The Internet light is just flashing on the router.

Oh right okay, yeah they should just be working without any changes needed to be done by yourself. Especially when the engineer tried another one also.

I would put in a complaint with Vodafone if you’re not getting anywhere with ordinary customer service. Usually the complaints team of the ISPs get more complex issues sorted quicker. Definitely mention the engineer tried another Gigabox and that didn’t work either.

I got through to a guy on the phone that was able to quickly fix it, and it's working now. I guess I was unlucky with the previous couple of people I was onto. Appreciate the help

I asked what it was, and he just said he had to update something...Just happy it's working. I was under pressure and really needed it before the weekend. Thanks again.
