Caliber Conversion kits

So after about a year of faffing around,I finally got the grant notice letter for my Ceiner/Hohrein .22 conversion kit for my Ruger Mini14. So yes,it can be done here in Ireland.

Points to take away from this are.

Offical stance is AGS do consider conversion kits as another firearm, not as an accessory,or as I argued as a combination gun of different calibers.[Same as a O/U 20 GA /22magnum or a Drilling]Despite them being literally a bunch of bits that you couldn't even throw at someone and specific to in my case one of two known licensed Mini14s in Ireland .

It took them a year to decide this point, one time it was grand, they are parts and no liscense required, then it was yeah they are a liscensable firearm, then back to no and finally YES they need a liscense. Well, if our PTB consider tubes with baffles in them and optical devices with micro circutry and batteries to be restricted "firearms"…Go figure.

I have to say thanks to both Graine in the FPU in Dublin and Louise in Henry St,Limerick for sticking with this hair puller of a problem and getting this over the line.

So another 80 quid to the exchequer.

You will need to get a serial number engraved on the parts somewhere, somehow that is basically your firearm serial number with say a number or letter to differentiate it. EG your guns serial number is ABC1234,so your conversion kit would be ABC1234- A[or whatever you fancy yourself] That was a fun job that required my gun dealer to get a jeweller to engrave the flattest part with the serial number! Were I to do it in the future,I belive Small Arms Service in Cork has a lazer engraver and can do this much neater.Otherwise it will be a PITA job depending on your kit components.

As soon as I get this and install it I'll put up some posts on how it works with various ammo and how [in]accurate it is.
