Locking of threads where there are active Court proceedings

I noted the Conor McGregor thread was locked due to court proceeding ongoing. Not going to discuss the case it self here, but surely the same would not apply to a court of appeals case as a judge would not be prejudiced by reading something on boards surely, and this is not before a jury. Also there is extensive coverage of this proceeding across the media, including opinion pieces so I fail to see how locking the thread in this instance in warranted. It feels like overly sensitive moderation. Individuals or posts overstepping the mark could be dealt with individually

Fully understand in the case of a jury trial. But a judge only hearing doesn't really make sense. And given its an appeal the thread in question is full of the details anyway. Its widely reported across the media also so definitely strikes one as a bit precious on behalf of Boards leadership - not the mods - you guys are just following policy.

In fairness if the appeal is successful might it not revert to another jury trial?

Be difficult to manage not to prejudice future jurors .

Is that not already done in the proceeding pages though? If it is done for any actual legal reasons should it not either remain hidden until all opportunities for appeal are exhausted or not be locked at all

I think as soon as a person is being charged it is . Previous conversation should not rest specifically on a person although it often does.

It's a minefield and the mods are doing their best to avoid the site getting an admonishment from the courts .

I know you know this but Zi think to relax that rule could end up.with all sorts of legal difficulties would the appeal end up with another trial .

Noone wants a murderer or rapist to get off because court proceedings were prejudiced by any thread on boards for sure .

And that includes links to other sites that are less scrupulous like X or Groot for example .

A general discussion keeping it non specific is ok . But that is the difficulty for mods . So in the end it gets closed down until there is some resolution .
