Hi, I’m really keen to get a table for home. Have no space in house, but have a decent sized garage.
The garage is insulated but it has roller doors, so does get very cold in winter and probably small amount of condensation.
Would this environment ruin a table over time? Would a pull over cover sort any issues? Any advise appreciated before making the plunge.

Hi, im interested to know how big you garage is, Id like to get a pool table also and was looking at getting a shanette insulated shed where I could put in and some gym gear, just looking at shed sizes now

would you look at getting the roller door replaced with wooden doors ? My Dads garage gets absolutely freezing in winter and weirdly can be like a sauna in the summer, both extremes, so only imagine the effect that would have on a table…

Yes I am thinking about either getting doors made for it or doing up my own ones. Will get the doors insulated if I end up doing that.

garage is 8m x 5m, double car garage. As with all Irish garages of course, I have never parked a car in it 😀

If you are replacing the doors you could get insulated doors like these.

A lower budget option would be a set of heavy curtains and retain your present doors.

If its not a very comfortable environment, you just won't use it for playing in. Ask me how I know...

That would be my fear! But it’s not a terrible space, I use it regularly enough for different bits and pieces.

Hi Pat, I went with a Shanette steel frame shed myself, primarily to use as an office and gym space so I could free up a bedroom in the house. Went with a 6.2m x 4m as it was the biggest I could get in the garden and still leave enough space not to need planning permission etc. Came with 40mm cladding, the frames are 100mm so extra insulation was put in the frames everywhere and then 15mm plasterboarding on top, laminate flooring over the concrete. So the actual useable space inside is approx 5.9m x 3.7m for me. One corner has an office desk and the opposite end I have approx 2m x 3.7m of gym area. Wasn't sure I'd still fit a pool table in the middle but after some research I'm going with a 7ft x 4ft and will just use 48" cues rather than the standard 57 - mostly limited by the width. Debated getting a 6ft table but the difference in width is only 4" so may aswell go with the 7. Hopefully getting the table delivered in the next week or two.

These links are pretty useful to show the approx room size you need based on table & cue size. I'm assuming you mean English pool tables rather than American. Hope that info was of some help. 🙂

@bamayang - Not sure what type of garage you have but if it gets some condensation, along with whatever insulation you can put in, a dehumidifier would also be worth getting - they are brilliant at getting rid of condensation. We have a few of them in the house for drying clothes or clearing condensation from bathroom walls. Defo worth looking into.

    Hi Andrew76,

Many thanks for the reply, I'm looking to do similar now, and am considering a shanette-insulated garage.

Im also interested in using it as a full-time office, how have you found it, what is it like heat wise being out in it for a couple of hours a day, did you add any heating to it?

Would love to see a pic of the internals

Also, if you don't mind me asking, did you do the cladding and plasterboard yourself or was it done by a tradesman, could you give me ballpark figures for groundwork and the slab and also a price to finish internally

    Many thanks

    Pat

Hi Pat, I'll send you a PM a little later with answers to your questions, just so I'm not derailing bamayang's thread too much. 👍️
