Let's try something a bit weird.

    I, Robot by Atari.

One of the earliest, maybe first games to use filled polygons

Never played it but always meant to give it a try.

Just looking at some videos, that sure is an impressive looking game for 1983.

    I gave it 2 creds there .. what a mad game 😁

The graphics for that time are insane.polagons flying everywhere ..copped eventually I have to get the red squares and not jump when the eye opens . Very interesting .the flying levels are so cool . Origins of panzer dragoon .

Dis ya check that other game mode. Mad..foe that time ..the things you can create .

Really like this game, can't believe it was a failure for Atari when it's so fun.

Anyway I hate that Beach ball level.

    Best score so far.

Yeah it must just have been too much too early for the masses to take in . The cab itself looks mad as well but brilliant

Quick bash there, definitely still in the 'wtf am I doing???' phase of the game 😁

It's actually kind of intuitive and starts to make sense.

Once you realise that you can jump to where the squares are lighting up it all starts to make sense.

For something so early and cutting edge, gameplay wise it's very polished and fun. The transport/level warp seems to where all the big points are.

Yeah I only copped the flashing squares earlier when the top came up. Hadn't a clue before that.

Also if you change view to nearest you get x3:multiplier . I tell ya virtua racing type views on a 1983 fully rendered polygon game . Madness

Oh I didn't realise that about the view, thanks! that should help the oul score.

Yeah half the time I was playing it my mind just kept going 'how is this a year older than me?!!?!' 😂

Some bits are like playing Starfox a decade before it was released.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,899 ✭✭✭unky chop chop

Yeah as ya change the view with start button you will see the x1 multiplier onscreen change . I keep forgetting to.do.it

Atari always wanted to make a polygonal racer but the tech wasn't there so made i robot. Eventually made hard drivin when the tech was better. Gets a bad rep but it's a fun game, just the console ports were way too ambitious.

Yeah the c64 version still gives me nightmares playing it as a young lad

I managed to get this score despite only playing for a short time. I got into a teleporter on level 1 and teleported to level 5, where the eye was replaced with a full head that shoots out spikes.

I got 40000 bonus for using the teleporter so my real score was about 3000. The head killed me with the first spike...

Seems to be all about the teleporter alright! I go to level 4 with the giant beach balls as it's fairly easy once you figure out the pattern. Also nets you 40,000.

The level after with the small beach balls being thrown at you is an absolute pain in the tits though!

Just got 45446 there now. Feels like I played less than a minute. The transporter is the key!

My best score so far, just short of the top. #i don't really use the teleporter but I'm making a lot of use of the view multiplier in the early stages:

    irobot-250704-235501.png

There's some tough levels and then followed by some relatively easy ones but I was on edge as I lost all my lives on the tough ones. No teleports as I usually get slightly higher when not using them.
