Concerning The Future of Boards.ie

In light of the identity of the owner of the hideous Tattle Life site being made public, and the damages against him, I’m wondering if the management, and owners, of Boards.ie are considering any potential implications of having “anonymous” posters abusing celebrities and public figures?

Obviously, what goes on here is very mild compared to the hate on Tattle, but some of the “commentary” on forums like Radio and Celebrity and Showbiz can be a bit “close to the bone”. I am aware that some sterling work was done to try and keep that in line but it has been, slowly, creeping back in and having CMods/Admins, who are possibly unaware of this work, overturning warnings on appeal isn’t helping matters.

Would there be instances where the identity of posters would be made available for legal purposes, like its being suggested will happen with Tattle “contributors”, or can they be protected by GDPR? There’s no way for users to find out these details, is there? I’m aware that on Instagram when someone, sloppily, sets up an account to abuse celebrities, links to their main account are easily available.

Will be interesting to see if this case will lead to social media “platforms” being deemed publishers and higher standards will have to be applied.

I've no idea what Tattle Life is, honestly. From a quick google, I think it's better to keep it that way.

I wonder are there many boardsies over there, I remember there was a lot of hassle trying to find a home for gossiping about bloggers / 'influencers' / etc. a few years ago, fair play to @biko he was having none of it

OP, did you never wonder why the forum is under the Tech category and not under Soc?

It is because it's a help forum for technical questions and not at all intended for beauty/fashion stuff.

Why are you guys not discussing these topics in Fashion or beauty forums?

By the time the forum was set up, most of the people who wanted it had moved on to reddit or elsewhere

Yeah, and I don't think boards is in the same category as this tattle site. They seem to be a gossiping site and nothing else.

Of course. Anyone who believes they have true anonymity on Boards is mistaken. Straight from the Privacy Notice:

It has some off topic sections, current affairs, advice, television as well as the celebrity/influencer threads. It's more akin to old digital spy than boards. A lot of media attention it gets is because a lot of influencers complain about people critiqueing them, but the moderation is actually pretty tight, although it probably depends on what part of it your reading. People are quite quick to call out and report things they think are off limits (like criticising children of celebrites etc.) from what I've seen. Some of the pushback is because a lot of people on that site report influencers to the ASA for not declaring sponsored stuff as ads or point out the ahem inconsistencies of some of what they put out. It does depend on the celebrity though, some are beloved and others get loads of flack.

An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu. Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor.
