is it true that you can't be on part time work for over 2 years?

    My friend told me you can't be on a part time work for 2 years or else they have to make you full time
    but i can't find info on this anywhere, is it true or jsut something he was wrong about?

    Your friend may be thinking of short time work which is where your regular full time work hours are reduced to half of what they normally are usually because of a business down turn. This is a temporary measure and there should be some agreed date at which normal hours will resume. An employee may be able to claim jobseekers payments until things go back to normal.

    If, on the other hand, you were always working part time then this can continue indefinitely.

    I wonder is he confusing it with fixed term contracts (which is not part time like above)

    "Renewing Fixed-Term Contracts

    Must inform employee in writing not later than the date of renewal of objective grounds justifying renewal of fixed-term contract and the failure to offer a permanent contract

    If 2 or more continuous fixed-term contracts, the aggregate may not exceed 4 years - becomes a permanent contract after 4 years"

    Otherwise I don't know what the hell is he on about but it's definitely incorrect

    I suspect it might be the fixed term
