Does my employer want me?

    Hi!

Background: Worked as a CSM for a tech company. Been there almost 3 years and been promoted twice in that time to more senior CSM roles.

Earlier this year, I was selected for redundancy along with a number of colleagues in the CSM department. I managed to negotiate a 1 year extension to cover maternity leaves for one of my colleagues — so I am still in the same role.

However, last week my company opened a new CSM role for my team. It’s permanent and I decided I would apply.

After speaking to my manager, he said there is no problem applying but they’re also opening it to external candidates. So I have to interview for the role and compete against externals. They said this cause the business thinks there is lots of external talent and it would unwise not to assess the market.

What’s your thoughts on this? Are they looking to get rid of me?

I’m disappointed as I have performed well in my role and I think I’m nice to work alongside — but this has spooked me a little.
