Speeding ticket

I received a registered letter today 04-06-25, for speeding penalty for 18-01-25, I called the helpline and they advised that a regular post letter was sent to me on 24-01-25 for this which unfortunately I never received.
Now on 18-01-25 my friend was driving my car which he borrowed, I was not even in the car and he agreed to that and remembered the instance, he is ready to pay the fine. Though on the helpline, I was told it was too late for nomination, and I can try to appear in court, maybe with a letter from the other driver or them in person, on that day and appeal my case with the judge. Is there any other way to nominate the other driver at this stage, or the only option is to appear in court? Any personal experience, should I just bite the bullet and take the penalty points?

If your friend shows up and gives that evidence and you give the evidence that you did not receive the fixed penalty notice that will be enough to have the charge dismissed

The legal position is that a nomination of another driver by the registered owner can only be made within 28 days from the date of issue of the Fixed Charge Notice, after which the matter remains in that of the registered owner. You have now received a summons to attend court but you should bring the driver with you on the day. It will be for the presiding Judge to adjuciate on the matter of a third party being the driver on yhe date of the offence. The summons on the matter must issue within 6 months from the date of the offence, thus the 28/56 timelines for payment, nominations etc.
