Usual time for licence issuing

Hey folks, looking for a bit of info. Just paid the licence fee for my first firearm in the post office, how long does it take for this to be issued? Had a look around and couldnt see any mention.

Licence was received yesterday after paying the fee last Friday, so spot on with 4/5 days!

Another quick question, as i can now buy up to 500 cartridges, which i think is 2 slabs?, are there any recommendations on where to buy around Dublin and surrounding counties? After some reading I was thinking eley olympic blues, but not sure on 24 vs 28g, so might try both, but open to any suggestions on other options?

Yes indeed 250 cartridges is a slab, so 2 slabs =500.

On cartridges, it somewhat depends on what your planning on shooting.

Clays would be my guess given Olympic blues?

That list is great, thanks a mill. Yea, ill be shooting clays for the most part. Ill start looking into game once i find my feet.

Gotcha, well yup in that case any 24-28 gram loads with shot sizes of 7 to 8.5 should do fine.

I'd suggest you go for a variety to start to see what you like, as in 2 boxes of Olympic blue 24gr, 2 of 28gr, 2 of 24gr gamebore, etc.

Then when you've narrowed what you like down get into slabs.

I'll also say that if your shotgun is a semiauto definitely go the variety route, since semis will cycle some loads well and others not well at all.

I'm guessing you've likely got an over under where this isn't an issue though.

And as a slight addendum you can also purchase ammunition online here.

You just go to a gun shops website that sells it, place your order, they will request a front and back photo of your licence and then dispatch the ammo to the address on your licence.

Which is quite handy when/if your local shop doesn't have the variety or availability you need.
