Yeah an R-Line with small wheels would look stupid. No point paying extra for an R-Line if your going to be taking away from it with smaller wheels.

only reason I was going for the r line is price and low mileage. Leather, heated seats etc are a bonus

The 1st one is suspiously low mileage import from a dealer not long established

The last one has above average miles from an established dealer

The middle one is also not from an established dealer but irish car so a bit harder to clock than import

Why would an Irish car be easier to clock? Our mileage database is nowhere near as good as the UK’s

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 49 highwall32

    is 104k suspiciously low for a 4 year old car…25k a year. I wouldn’t have thought so.

It is for the money being asked for it compared to similar cars. Have you done a history check on it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 49 highwall32

Not yet, will be doing one tomorrow.

Make sure to also put the UK reg into the UK MOT checker: https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/

Smaller market - smaller no of cars for sale so easier to spot car that has been clocked .Also easier to overload a car from uk that's been clocked and original owner isn't going to spot their car for sale

They’re 18s on the R Line Passat. Don’t think they’re low profile? So would they be sane driving experience as the other models with 17s?

What spec Passats are there from 2020 on? My 2016, there’s trendline, comfort line, Highline and then r line I think.
From 2020 on all I can see is Business model, R line and Elegance. Is business the “basic” model, and Elegance the next one up, the. R line? It’s impossible find anything on google about it.

    Base

    Business

    Elegance

    R-Line.

The 2020 Passat brochure for Ireland is still online if you Google it.

Would you go for a 2021 Elegance (Manual) with 120k on it, or a 2022 Business model (Automatic) with 140k and €2k cheaper?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 49 highwall32

As a side note, what are people’s opinions of the Kia Sportage. Could pick up a 22/23 for around €28-€30k. Only thing that confuses me is the specs…K2 is the base I’m guessing and k4 is luxury. But I’ve seen k2s with the big infotainment system and k4 with the basic? Given my type of driving on bad roads and 800km a week, would a 1.6 diesel Sportage be a bad choice compared to a 2l Passat.

are you looking at the current model Sportage? UK and Irish specs differ but they use the same naming system.

Ya the new model since 2022. On DoneDeal. All Irish cars. Maybe I’m looking at the pictures wrong but the infotainment screen seems different on different models.

Very interested in this Passat…2022 Business model automatic. Only thing is this is the radio, which looks different to another one available in same models

    IMG_6971.png

This radio is from same car, spec and year and is way nicer.

    IMG_6968.png

Does anyone know why this is, is the first one a lower spec? Any help appreciated.

Could I ask what mpg you're getting with the 2 litre diesel auto superb estate as I'm looking at them myself. Thanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,664 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

The more basic radio model looks like a UK spec Business trim while the other one is an Irish spec Business trim.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 49 highwall32

Any idea would it be an option to have the basic radio swopped out for the proper Irish spec one? Would it cost much and would it be easy to pick one up?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,664 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Personally I wouldn't bother fluffing about with all that, I'd just buy a similar Irish model or higher spec UK model. UK ones are not much cheaper these days due to Brexit, unless the car has a colourful or hidden past.

Few hundred. Probably not a DIY job but theres plenty of people who can do it

Finally picked a car. A 21 Passat with 140k. Collecting it next week. Dealer has it a few months, they sold it originally in 2021, and the owner upgraded earlier this year. It has to be NCT’d for first time, a full service, new timing belt and a 12 month warranty. Got a cartell report myself and everything checks out.
Only thing niggling me is, would it be normal to have a car like that in the forecourt for a few months not selling. And would it be normal not to do the NCT on it until it’s sold…I assume it will be backdated to January anyway.
Also, the rep I met quoted me a price including mine as a trade in. I had no interest at that stage and told him it was out of my budget. He told me to wait and went to speak to the owner. Brought me into the owner, who studied the figures, my car etc, and dropped the price by 3k. Should this be setting off alarms??

140k km on a 4 year old car is high enough mileage and would put many people off. High sticker price could put people off too if it's overpriced compared to similar cars elsewhere. Could be other reasons too that are hard to speculate on.

NCT only when it's sold is common practice with dealers. Not practical putting a fresh NCT on stock sitting on the forecourt not sold yet, also if NCT slots are in short supply they have to prioritize sold cars needing a test.

Also bringing you into the boss or them going to talk to the boss first are old sales tactics to make it look like they are giving you a great offer. They probably wanted to see 1. if they were dealing with a fool willing to pay the initial price or 2. if you were serious about buying rather than just another tyre kicker window shopping.
