HCAP Range Test

Going to do the HCAP in July, will need to rent a deer legal rifle from Midlands to do the test, anyone rent off them and if so do the rifles need any adjustment before hand or are they good to go, probably best to shoot the ammo they have zeroed with also.

I did the countrysports Ireland exam there end of last year. Rifles they provided were surprisingly decent actually.

I've heard of one course where the rental rifle was shooting way off target, but don't know which provider put that course on.

But on ammo yes, if you use some which is different from the ammo the gun is zeroed with you will likely get a deviation from the zero.

But the distances for the deer shoot are also not long at all:

100 meters - prone, 3 rounds in a 4 inch round target, and if successful then you move onto:

100 meters - 3 rounds at a deer shaped target(having to hit the heart area),

60 meters - 3 rounds sitting or kneeling

40 meters - 3 rounds standing.

Just to add you can use......

100m Prone, can use a bi-pod, sticks, or bag.

60m sitting or kneeling, can use bi-pod or sticks.

40m standing, can use sticks.

Just used their guns the last 2 weekends , they are fairly spot on , user error on my behalf was the only thing wrong here .

I had to rent one for when I did the course, they give you a .308 with no mod so there’s bit of a kick and bang from it if you’re not used to them.

There was a couple of us renting guns when I did it so the instructors were sound and let the lads with their own guns plough on and get through it and let the rest of us watch and do it at a slower rate afterwards
