What constitutes a "New Customer"?

Most providers have special deals for what they term "new" customers. What exactly is a new customer?…could it be my other-half even though the eircode is the same obviously? Been with Eir (in just my name) for about two years now and looking to renew.

It’s a new connection to a premises not previously connected.

You sure about that? Surely the contract is with the customer not the premises…no?

you’d have to switch from most providers in order to get these deals though. New customer = new connection or win back (switched from provider)

obviously you could also speak to your provider, most have a loyalty department & most again would just give you a similar or the same offer if you recontract.

Mind you this practice seems to be dwindling lately and it’s not as common as it used to be.

I was involved in a situation with an elderly couple where one spouse turned 70 and they wanted to get the free electricity allowance.

Problem was the bill was in the name of the the other one who was under 70.

The existing account was closed and a new one opened in the name of the 70 year old.

They not alone got the free electricity but also got a new customer bonus.

I don't know if telecoms work the same.
