What's coming out of the exhaust when turning over

nothing seems to take a while few seconds before smoke comes through exhaust as if no fuel to injectors until it’s bled through

Is there a pre filter before the fuel filters, like a water separator? They need to be drained from time to time.

GI've the fuel line a shot of air back to the tank, sounds like is starved for fuel. Is there a filter on the tank.

In some tanks there can be a filter inside just as the fuel leaves the tank so check is there a filter inside the tank.

The other thing is the diesel injector pump itself may need reconditioning/ cleaning

Had a similar issue here before. Changed all branded hoses and fitted inline non-return valve between tank and fuel filter. Solved the problem for me.

thanks where did you get the non return valve from?

Any of the tractor parts shops should have them and only a few bob. I believe it's an issue within the injector pump whereby it looses it's prime when parked up over night. It cured my issue anyways and thats a good few years ago now.
