    Hi,

    In most of my new

house I have pretty typical raidator TRVs, big and builky with several settings. I have one radiator that just this much smaller valve made by Estella with minus and pluses diplayed. Is this a TRV? Is there a reason these are installed instead of a normal one?

Hi, no, that's a lock-shield valve. It is used to manage the flow-rate into the radiator.

What's on the other side of the rad?

I believe it's common to not fit a TRV to a radiator if there's a larger main radiator in the same room with a TRV, or if there's a wall thermostat/heating controller in the room, as this can cause conflict between the TRVs/thermostats each calling for different levels of heat in the same room.

Thanks both. The radiators other side has a non movable cap.

Penn you called it right. The room, a middle floor landing has its own thermostat, but here is the problem, this hall, tends to get very warm from heat coming from below, while the rooms off this landing tend to be cold in winter. In winter, it is common that floor above gets too warm and occupants tend to open the windows while occupants in the rooms below are still too cold. So the thermostat doesnt work well as you'd need to have it at say 23C or so to ensure the middle floor bedrooms reach 19c. Therefore I wanted to put a TRV on this landing so at least I can keep this middle floor landing radiator off/ or low to reduce the chances of upstairs getting too warm. A2 house (gas) yet the bills reached 550 euro at one stage in the winter.
