Switching from VF to Eir

Hi

In our estate we are lucky enough to have NBI and Eir fibre networks (No idea why we have but we do ) . Im thinking of switching from VF to Eir which will also mean moving away Im guessing from NBI . Will this mean that I will need a new fibre and ONT into the house

you can be on NBI with eir if you want but you’re limited to only 1GB plan at the moment. They don’t offer 500mb on nbi.

I would think eir wouldn’t allow going through NBI as they would have to pay fees to NBI, when OpenEir have already invested in installing their own, it would be cheaper for them. Definitely could ask when ordering and see though.

I went to switch to Sky before and they wouldn’t let me connect through the existing OpenEir connection I had with them before, they insisted on connecting me through SIRO this time as it was now available to me.

If they do use OpenEir, yes a new fibre cable and ONT would be installed.

Any particular reason for switching to eir? Digiweb and Pure Telecom would be more helpful in getting you connected through NBI, if that’s what you’d prefer. They offer different prices to customers for each access provider.

doesn’t matter. If you’ve an NBI eircode they will sell you NBI.

Im not sure that will apply here though because both are available and if Eir can only sell NBI then why did they bother installing their own backhaul. Just to prove I can get either I currently have 500mb NBI via VF and Eir are offering me 2gb through their own network. I even remember when EIR layed the fibre about 2 years post NBI I was thinking why are they bothering Reason I wanted to move to Eir was because at the moment they seem to have better deals but if it requires a new cable being pulled into the house I don't think ill bother and do as suggested above and look at Digiweb or Pure

I didn’t say they could only sell it I said if you have NBI available you can stay on NBI.

OpenEir have encroached on NBP intervention areas around the country, generally before NBI fibre arrives, why they would do it 2 years after the arrival of NBI I've no idea

Eircom had their chance to lock these areas into the commercial rollout during the intervention map planning but chose not to.

To add insult to injury they are behind rolling out fibre to some commercial areas, these areas may have to be included in a future urban NBP.
